I make music because......I do. I'm not the best at it, nor have I ever been. Some people read, some people knit, and others well, they do what they do that moves them. I make beats. I do it because I want to, not because I need to. Although everybody and their grandmother now a days makes tracks, who gives a rooty tooty?! I have found a new love for what I put on the back burner thanks to DJ Cross phase. Sampling. That's right I said it! Going back through records from my moms collection, records that Cross phase lays on me, or records digging through the crates, has broaden my horizons in what I though was music.
I was fortunate to marry somebody that "gets it".Friday night has always been music night. Thanks Cara for letting me have Friday night music nights. I've always been a "DJ" since like 3rd grade when I was recording Q94 and then mixing off 2 tape players. Thanks to Worm who never would let me up in the booth at Ravens. You created a monster. Thanks to DJ Ace, who brought a new game to the "down south" sound. Thanks to Bassclef who showed me the world of underground. Thanks to Big country and the rest of the Crenshaw boys who have been through it all with me.I just wanted to say thanks to everybody and anybody who has ever said you suck, you're decent, you're white and white people don't rap. You're right. I don't rap. I talk over music.
Like it or love it, I have grown and changed the way I "listen" to music. I've always said well if I had this and that, I'd..... yeah I'm over that. I've got no deadlines on this thing. I make music, because I am music.
I can see that my little girl (Anderson) gets it too! When we're in the car and she says "turn it loud daddy", you would have thought she made the deans list, or won a Nobel prize. Or when she recognizes a song and says,'that's our song daddy". It makes me happy that something I love is loving something that I love! Chew on that one! Will I ever tour-no. Will I ever make money off it-no. Do I care-no!
The obsession is growing more and more each day. I feel like it's growing up with Anderson. But the more and more I listen to these old records, it make me want to study more than I ever did for any test in school. maybe one day I'll figure out how to just "make music"!
I'm DJ GT, I'm out.1
